The Denominación de Origen (DO) is the Spanish wine law classification system, similar to the French AOC and the Italian DOC systems. There are over 79 Quality Wine regions across Spain, but only Rioja and Priorat have been distinguished as DOCa regions (Denominación de Origen Calificada) for their consistently high quality. The bold red wines from Priorat may not have the international exposure that the Tempranillos from Rioja have, but they are not to be overlooked. While Rioja is a highly regarded and beloved region for their rich and robust reds, the lovely and dynamic white wines from the region are often overlooked. John d’Anna of American NW Distribution will pour two white wines from a classic Rioja producer and two reds from a modern Priorat producer.
