Portland's own Andy Ricker returns with Pok Pok: The Drinking Foods of Thailand—a rollicking, booze-soaked follow-up to his celebrated Pok Pok cookbook. After decades of traveling and living in Thailand, Andy has spent plenty of hours sharing drinks and stories at bars and roadside stands throughout Southeast Asia. For his second cookbook, Andy turns his passion for Thai cuisine towards a more casual side of the culture. Just as America has salted peanuts, wings, and nachos, Thailand has its own roster of craveable snacks: spicy, salty, and/or sour, they are perfect accompaniments for a few drinks and the company of good friends.
Join us for an evening toasting to Andy's new book and the vibrant drinking culture of Thailand. James Beard Award-winning restaurant critic Karen Brooks (Portland Monthly) will lead a conversation with Andy about his favorite drinking snacks and his late-night travels through Thailand. We'll also have salty snacks and special Pok Pok Som cocktails (plus recipes) for you to enjoy. And, of course, Andy will sign copies of his great new cookbook—a perfect addition to your library or a gift for the culinary traveler in your life!
Free to attend—signed copies of both Pok Pok cookbooks will be available for purchase. We kindly ask that only books purchased at Providore be signed at the event.
