Established in Montepulciano in Tuscany in the mid-16th century, Avignonesi is one of the oldest wineries in Italy. For centuries its fortunes followed the movements of the Catholic Church. Revitalized in the 1970s, it is now under the guidance of Virginie Saverys, who was instrumental in obtaining full organic certification for the vineyards. Partnering with the University of Bordeaux, a detailed topography and soil analysis was done, resulting in custom planting, pruning and vinification decisions for each parcel. Today, Avignonesi crafts exceptional Tuscan wines, including their bold Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
